From Rachel - Our family is so touched by the encouraging comments and prayers. It sure does help us to know that there are so many prayer warriors lifting Olivia up. We all were able to get some much needed rest last night, we just cannot bring ourselves to leave her bedside. Olivia had a successful blood transfusion last night that helped her hematocrit level increase and lower her heart rate. She did get 2 rounds of morphine for pain during the night because she wouldn’t settle down on just Tylenol. Olivia is off of Oxygen and has started drinking breast milk again but not the typical amount she usually eats. She still looks like she rarely misses a meal :). Around 9:00 this morning, Olivia had a fever spike therefore prompting her heart rate to increase to the 200s due to agitation/pain. It is so hard to watch her in pain but the fever has eased and she is resting comfortably now. Neurology has been by this morning and reaffirmed that she will “ be here for a while.” Initially, we were told 14-21 days on antibiotics but this was before the almost hour long seizure this past Wednesday morning. Overall, the doctors are very pleased with her alertness and coloring. We have come a long way in just 2 days. I overheard that we may be able to move out of PICU later this evening. We sure do hope we can because it is very busy all the time in PICU and nurses are in and out of the room constantly. We are continuing to pray for the following: (1) low fevers (2) reduced pain (3) no hearing loss – a side effect of the meningitis (4) normal heart rate. Olivia’s team of doctors have not been by yet this morning. If there is any new information we will surely pass it along. Praising and praying!
