From Rev Kenneth Meshoe: The statement made by the Alliance Secretariat after their meeting on Friday 12 September 2014 is shocking, and warrants a response from, among others, Christians who believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. The allegations made that the State of Israel was “founded on the basis of apartheid” is a lie that contradicts and undermines the teachings of Scriptures. While we acknowledge and agree that there are challenges in Israel like all other countries of the world, the fact is that Israel is not an apartheid state nor has she ever been an apartheid state. Both the African Christian Democratic Party and DEISI International (Defend Embrace Invest-in Support Israel), hereby wish to challenge the ANC, COSATU and the SACP to either refer us to a piece of Israeli legislation that entrenches apartheid, or to mention places in Israel where apartheid is being practised pursuant to a policy of the Israeli government or an act of the Israeli Parliament. We note that the Israeli Parliament (also known as the Knesset) has, in addition to Israelis, Arabs and Palestinians as Members. Obviously, in every country in the world you will find individuals that have personal preferences when it comes to inter-relationships and neighbourhoods as is currently happening in Africa, the US, Russia, China and parts of Europe. To then accuse such countries of apartheid because of the personal preferences of individuals is wrong and should be rejected. The Alliance Secretariat has not accused such countries of apartheid practices but only singles out Israel in this manner – why? We note that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population has grown. Furthermore, the Arab population in Israel has grown from approximately 159,000 in 1949 to approximately 1,694,000 in the 66 years since her establishment. The call to isolate and boycott products from Israel just proves that the tripartite alliance has embraced the wicked agenda of those who have threatened to wipe Israel from the face of the earth. The call further shows the tripartite alliance’s ignorance of the indispensable contribution Israeli technology has made and continues to make to world progress and civilisation.
