From Senator Thomas McElveen - news on prefiled bills Our pro-military, pro-economic development initiative to begin exempting military retirement from the state income tax is getting some positive attention. We have companion bills pre-filed in the SC House and Senate for the upcoming session, and this will be priority legislation for many of our local legislators in order to keep South Carolina competitive with neighboring states and to demonstrate to our servicemen and servicewomen that we want them to stay/locate here when their military service ends. Thanks to the leadership of Sumter Reps. Murrell Smith (who filed this bill last session and for this upcoming session) and David Weeks, it passed the House last year. Heres to hoping it ends up on the Governors desk in 2015!
