From Shewly school newsletter Our very own Shewly Akter (G9) who successfully ran 10km, and 42km races to raise awareness and funds for the Maria Christina Foundation, a charity which was founded by Dubai-based Maria Conceicao to educate people in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, In 2010 Shewly and 4 other students moved to Dubai to study in Taaleem schools. Shewly has shown to be an exceptional hard-working student, who also reminds us frequently to look after her less fortunate countrymen in Bangladesh. Her book, Dhaka Diaries which is a compilation of letters by her family and friends is for sale and the proceeds will go to help pay for her brothers’ and her friends back home education.
