From Snow to Sun (and Back to Snow...Sigh.) *First off, I would like to ask everyone for their prayers and positive energy to be sent to Savannah, who became extremely ill due to complications from Mitochondrial Disease and was recently hospitalized. Thankfully she is now back home but its still a difficult time for her and her family. Rare diseases are so terrifying and life-shattering and thats why raising of awareness is so, so important. We love you, Savannah- stay strong, beautiful girl!* Seattle had a wonderful holiday season and was spoiled rotten, as she should be:) It was pretty low-key; we stayed at home and were joined by my parents, which is always lovely, especially for the kids who adore seeing their Bun and PopPop (or Munny and Boppy as my 2 year old calls them:) ) It was definitely a Frozen Christmas for SeaSea, who has now gotten her younger sister hooked on Elsie and Onnie too- looks like a few more years of Let It Go on repeat in this house... There was no snow over the school holidays but it hit full force when they were about to go back to school and they actually called the first Snow Day in 35 years because it was so bad. But that was fine with me because.... Shane and I were on our way to Ixtapa, Mexico! Shane won a radio contest in October and we won a week long stay at an all-inclusive resort called Tesoro. Our last vacation was when we took the kids to Tofino when Seattle was a few months old; after she got sick, we were hit with her medical expenses and our dreams of travelling vanished. This was a huge, wonderful surprise! Ixtapa is one of the most beautiful and serene places Ive ever seen; the beaches were phenomenal, the resort and staff were incredible and so welcoming, we met some fantastic people that will be life-long friends and the weather was gorgeous! We especially fell in love with one island called Playa Las Gatas; its hard to describe but it felt like home to me. It was the first time I have ever felt such a strong connection to a place; it was stunning. Everyone we spoke to who has been there goes back and Im hoping to be one of them, although venturing through the city wouldnt be easy for Seattles wheelchair. Im constantly checking places out for wheelchair accessibility and it definitely isnt there but I would love nothing more than to be able to show the kids tropical beaches; my water babies would freak out over the snorkeling:) They would have had a blast; I missed them so much and spoke about them non-stop. Im pretty sure half the island knows everything about them:) One funny story- there were many local families also vacationing at the resort and while my Spanish isnt up to par, I understand a bit and there was one time while two teenage girls looked at me with my vitiligo and started talking about it; I heard the word vitiligo and then diablo. I literally fell over laughing! And then right after, Shane walked by a family and being the the tall, muscular guy that he is, was referred to as Hemsworth. So apparently Im the devil and Shane is Thor.... Sounds about right, actually:) Now its back to reality, the school run and way to much snow... Medical appointments start back up tomorrow, with eye-testing for both girls. Seattle needs to have her eyes checked frequently for signs of Multiple Sclerosis, which people with Transverse Myelitis often develop and Harlow has heterochromia (one eye is half hazel and half blue) and also needs to be monitored. Cant wait to see the doctor try to put dilating drops into my feisty red-heads eyes- should be interesting... kind of feel sorry for the poor soul. We are also back to Portland next week to get Seas AFOs and back brace, which she will not be happy about but if avoids multiple spinal fusions in the future than the pain and discomfort now has to be done. I know shell handle it like a champ, just like she does with everything she faces! Thank you for reading and caring about my little Hero! Much love to you all ~ Lindsay
