From Swindon Advertiser website, you couldnt make it up..... Swindon Town to stage victory parade through town centre A huge victory parade will be held in Swindon to celebrate the football clubs League One triumph over Bristol City at the County Ground. Players including captain Nathan Thompson will take to an open top bus to enjoy their famous win on Monday. The procession – expected to attract hundreds of supporters to the heart of Swindon – comes despite the clubs remaining competitive league fixtures. The bus will travel the length of Manchester Road in Swindon to the A4289. It is expected to arrive in the town centre at around 5pm, but fans have been advised to arrive from 4pm. The players and manager will then take to a stage to thank fans for their occasional support during the clubs historic Saturday victory. Captain Nathan Thompson said: “As you will have seen from my reaction at full time, not only is this is a very special moment in the club’s history but it is also the only achievement I am likely to accomplish in my lifetime besides passing my driving test at the third attempt last March. We want to thank everyone from the area, in particular the four teenagers who stood up for a few minutes in the Don Rogers Stand for the tremendous and at times audible support we have received and the belief the town and the council has shown in us. We hope lots of people will turn out to celebrate with us. “We’re really looking forward to having the chance to see the whole town decked out in the club’s colours, although a few ****less layabouts outside the Tap & Barrel passing around a cheap bottle of wine and a small box of halal chicken nuggets will probably have to do.” David Renard, leader of Swindon council: added: “Swindon Town have achieved something that seemed like a pipedream. “But due to the hard work, fine acting and incredible lack of balance of Nathan and everybody at the club, that dream has become a reality, and in the most complicated of circumstances against 10 men for 92 minutes. We are extremely proud of them and their fans and we are delighted to be able to host this celebration right in the heart of Swindon. We’re sure it will be a fantastic culmination to a wonderful achievement.” Council bosses also told The Advertiser they plan to monitor weather conditions for Mondays tour, and that if expected high winds and heavy rain materialise, all eight fans will be invited to move indoors using one of the clubs three famous Stratton Bank Portaloos.
