From THE AMERICAN SPECTATOR Obama Blames Republicans for ACA Failure By Benjamin Brophy on 11.20.13 | 10:42AM Yesterday, while speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council meeting (and skipping an event commemorating the Gettysburg address) President Obama suggested that Republicans share some of the blame for the Affordable Care Act’s troubles. “One of the problems we’ve had is one side of Capitol Hill is invested in failure,” Obama said at the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council meeting in Washington. “We obviously are going to have to remarket and rebrand, and that will be challenging in this political environment.” The president also voiced frustration with the toxic political atmosphere endangering his signature legislative achievement. He said Washington needs to “break through the stubborn cycle of crisis politics and start working together.” Truly stirring analysis. The president has long used Republicans as his whipping boy, a convenient excuse for failure. When any of his policies show signs of trouble, he dredges up the GOP and points the finger. But this time, the Republicans own feebleness make his accusations flat-out ridiculous. Senator Ted Cruz and his supporters were completely unable to slow down the train that is Obamacare. The House shut down the government, but eventually caved without much in the way of concessions from Sen. Harry Reid. Neither faux-filibuster nor symbolic votes were able to undo the damaged health care law. No, Obamacare is the president’s and the president’s alone. His single legislative achievement is mired in failure. Try as he might, the president cannot pin it on Republicans. Perhaps he can still tie it to George W. Bush though?
