From TexasFootball: San Angelo Central vs. Arlington Bowie, 7 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium When the discussion topic of West Texas Teams With A Legitimate Shot At A Deep Playoff Run inevitably comes up every year, perhaps no team gets mentioned with such frequency as San Angelo Central. The Bobcats seem perpetually on the cusp of something big. And so, we’re left with the same question as years past: is this the year? If the Bobcats are going to make serious noise, it’ll have to get past a devil of a bi-district matchup with Arlington Bowie. The Volunteers are among the most explosive teams in the state, boasting superstar QB Tony James, breakout RB DeAndre Cook and nearly unmatched depth at wide receiver, as Jalin Badger, Chris Gardner and Anthony Hawkins all boast game-breaking ability. The defense has been a bit of an afterthought, though, which may open up some opportunities for Central QB Braden Hucks and the sneaky-talented Bobcats attack. The script for this game is fairly simple: Bowie has an edge on offense, and Central has an edge on defense. Which edge is greater? We’re about to find out, though I’ll also note that Central’s home-field advantage is not to be discounted — Bowie will have a four-hour drive to make to get to this one. Tepper’s pick: San Angelo Central 38, Arlington Bowie 34
