From The Informant: JEU DE CARTES SET FOR A POSSIBLE DATE WITH FRANKEL Group Two winner Jeu de Cartes may have a date with Frankel coming up Group Two Counties Cup winner Jeu de Cartes (NZ) (Stravinsky) is set for a visit to thoroughbred sensation and freshman sire Frankel (Galileo) if her sale is confirmed this week. The Stravinsky mare was vetted at the stable of her trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman last week in preparation for a potential move to the northern hemisphere after her owner and breeder, Queensland based Mrs Billie Morton, was approached by bloodstock agent Peter Ford on behalf of Australian interests. “Peter Ford rang me to ask whether she might be on the market so I thought about it and decided to sell her as I thought it would be the right thing to do as I wasn’t sure I would breed from her when she retired,” explained Morton. “She is a lovely mare who still has plenty of racing in her but I have so many horses at present and I’m not getting any younger so I thought it was best to make the sale.” Morton bred the mare from her Group One winner Prized Gem (NZ) (Prized) who was bred by her late husband Barry. Prized Gem’s first foal was the Gr. 1 AJC Derby winner Nom du Jeu (NZ) (Montjeu) who now stands at Fairdale Stud where Morton retains a fifty percent share in his ownership. Australian bloodstock agent Peter Ford was awaiting the result of the vet test before confirming the completion of the sale. “She has been vetted and once we get the results we should be able to put the final pieces in place and she will be on a plane later in the week,” he said. “I was approached by a group here in Australia who were looking for a well performed mare at group two level or better so I spoke with Billie to see if she was interested in selling and things progressed quite quickly from there. “She is a lovely mare who fitted the bill perfectly and with her still being in fine shape for a racing career there are a number of options for her new owners once they get the mare to her new base.” Rated by Timeform as the greatest racehorse in history, Frankel was retired to stud in 2012 for his owner/breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah of Juddmonte Farm after remaining unbeaten in a fourteen start career. He served his first book of 133 mares in 2013 at a service fee of £125,000.
