Michael Dobbs, Fifteen Minutes With WHEN: Thursday, November 20, 7:00 p.m. WHERE: The Odyssey Bookshop The first question any journalist asks when he or she has lined up an interview is “How much time do I have?” The majority of working reporters only get 10 to 15 minutes with a subject, often who has more than one of the interviews. The goal is to establish a rapport and get something fresh. In his new book, Dobbs presents many of the celebrity interviews he has conducted as a journalist since the 1970s. Some of the people in the book include: Vincent Price, Maureen O’Hara, George Romero, Ken Burns, Anne Rice, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Leonard Nimoy, Alice Cooper, Ray Bradbury, Suzanne Strempek Shea, Mick Foley, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Richie Havens, Bill Cosby, Tom Greene, Gabriel Iglesias, and Joan Rivers. A writer, college instructor and former radio talk show host, G. Michael Dobbs has been working in the mass media of western Massachusetts since 1975. He taught as an adjunct faculty member for thirteen years at Western New England University, instructing students in the development of mass communications, the history of film and newspaper production. He joined Reminder Publications Inc. as the editor of the Chicopee Herald in 1999 and is now the managing editor of the company’s five publications. He lives in Springfield with his wife Mary, way too many cats, and a very disobedient dog.
