Joyce, Public Information Officer Date: December 23, 2014 Phone: (910) 433-1374 FPD Officer Assaulted (Fayetteville, NC) – On Tuesday, December 22, 2014 at approximately 11:55 pm, an off duty officer with the Fayetteville Police Department was contacted by a resident of the Crescent Commons Apartment complex in regards to a suspicious person attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot. The female officer, who was in civilian clothing and her FPD jacket, approached the suspect in the parking lot of the apartment complex identifying herself as a police officer at which time the white male suspect immediately fled on foot. The officer gave chase and located the suspect behind a row of garages in the apartment complex. The officer ordered the suspect to remain on the ground, but the suspect immediately charged the officer and began to assault her by choking her. The officer was able to stop his advances by drawing her department issued pistol and pointing it at the suspect. The suspect fled on foot into a nearby wood line while additional officers were responding to the apartment complex. Detectives have identified the suspect as Robert Brent Dooley (W/M, 44 years of age) who is believed to be homeless. Dooley has been charged with Assault Inflicting Physical Injury of a Law Enforcement Officer, Assault On a Female and Resist, Delay & Obstruct a Public Officer. Additional charges will be forthcoming for the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle at the apartment complex. Dooley is known to frequent the areas of Skibo Road and Cliffdale Road. The name of the officer is not being released, as the suspect remains at large. The officer is recovering at this hour and is expected to return to full duty. Officers are actively searching for the suspect and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
