From Tonis Website: Do you remember when we, at the City, started the City Newsletter which was inserted as a separate item in the Sandspur? We even had a contest to name the newsletter…the winning name was The Beach Blanket, and it covered news from city hall. As the City Administrator, I would post what ordinances had been adopted and what resolutions had been passed by Council, along with other news about projects, etc. The Mayor wrote a column, Council would rotate each month and write one, and the Planning Commission wrote one. We also had columns from Finance, Public Works, Public Safety, Building and Utilities. I don’t know how many would like to see it come back, but I certainly would, because this gives the citizens insight into what is going on at City Hall. It’s important to make the community aware of things they would not ordinarily know. It’s also important to post notices about upcoming meetings so citizens can participate, as they should. I believe in transparency in government and would like to do anything that would move this back in a positive direction. toniforfollybeachmayor/quick-thoughts-4-a-healthy-civic-community-starts-with-informed-residents/
