From Tuesdays Sun Gazette article on the Democrats firehouse caucus: All registered voters in Arlington are eligible to participate in caucus voting, but each participant must sign a pledge that he or she does not plan to support candidates other than the Democratic nominee in the coming special election. I had suggested that the Arlington Democrats website and Facebook page state exactly that. Among those who have never participated in a firehouse caucus in Virginia, it is *not* automatically known that *any* registered voter willing to sign a pledge to not oppose the Democratic candidate nominated by the caucus is eligible to vote. Too often, those who are involved in a particular process dont grasp what needs to be conveyed to demystify the process for those who have not previously engaged. The party website focuses appropriate attention on the candidates. But the long rules document fails to make clear who is qualified to participate. Its very simple. Just read yesterdays Gazette article. With all due respect to the party, the article says in plain English what the Dems shoud have emphasized repeatedly. An inclusive community...
