From Waterside to Mountain Top - Day 2 of HCI-Hutchins School Exchange 2014 By Matthias Seah 2P2 Saturday was amazing. The group visited several iconic places and attractions in Hobart. The first included the famous Salamanca Market. It was filled with very interesting crafts and wonderful food uniquely Australian. Such as the mouth-watering scallop pies, which despite the slightly pocket-draining price, was absolutely delightful. Their strawberries, sausages and ginger beer were to die for. The museum was next. It was a place filled with beautiful works of art and brought Hobarts unique history and culture to life. Lastly, we capped the day off at Mount Wellington. Fortunately, we came well prepared for the cold temperature up there. The temperature was actually a pleasant 2 to 8 degrees, however what made it cold was the incredibly strong winds. Sudden rain from the sky was frequent, usually lasting only several minutes. Despite all this, it could not take away the beauty of the main attraction - the view. Indescribable and breath-taking wonder awaited us as we looked at Hobart from above. This is definitely one of the memorable events from this trip as a whole. After returning to our cosy abode, we relaxed and had fun for around an hour playing soccer and billiards, only several of many facilities the boarding house had to offer. After another sumptuous dinner, which included cheese baked pork chops, baked potatoes, and even a special hotpot for us. Following that, we had a 40 minute stroll to the beach and back. And thus this concluded another eye-opening day in Tasmania as we got to experience what daily life in Australia is like.
