From “Ye Olde Curmudgeon”: Here I go curmududgeoning again. - TopicsExpress

From “Ye Olde Curmudgeon”: Here I go curmududgeoning again. But that’s just the way I roll. I had a doctor’s appointment last week to follow up on some shoulder woes. I was on time for my appointment and after ONLY a ten minute wait, got the call to proceed to the examining room. After a thirty five minutes wait there is a light rap on the door and in strolls Doc and an intern. Doc says “How’s the shoulder?” “Doing okay.” say I in reply. “Let’s have a look.” says he. “Raise both arms as high as you can above your head – it’s the left shoulder, right?” “No, it’s the right shoulder!” Some small talk about the strength, or lack of it, in the shoulder and he chimes in “Oh. – Have you had an MRI done yet (Looking at the single sheet of paper he brought in with him – no chart, no history, just one single sheet of paper to list today’s appraisal)?” “Yes, it was done four weeks ago as you prescribed!” “Oh, - Will you step outside and get the results of the MRI? (this to the intern).” After a little babble about how often he gives cortisone injections and how far it would have to progress until he recommended surgery, I get a “Let’s go take a look at that MRI result.” We did and he explained the results to me and sent me on my way. The curmudgeon inside me was erupting. Starting with “Why schedule an appointment at 8:45 when you can’t get to me until almost 9:30? Like my time is not as important to me as yours is to you!” Then onto “You don’t even know what body part you’re following up on?” Ending with “Do you not have a case history you bring with you to see your patients? Do you not have a chart to refer to when evaluating a patient’s status?” My problem I guess, in that I followed the recommendation of my primary when I went to this less than interested, half hearted effort giving, ADD afflicted “Orthopedic Surgeon” for my problem. I’m getting’ too old for this kind of crud!
