From a Annoyed Mangalorean Girl ;( Must Read..! This is just to make you aware people! Strict actions need to be taken against the men who behave in a negligent way in the public with the women. This happened on the December 12, 2014 morning at about 10.30 morning when we were boarding the city bus number 13 C on our way to PVS in Mangalore. We two women had to take a ticket and the cost of the ticket was Rs.15. As we did not have the exact change, we gave the conductor Rs.100 and he again asked for Rs.5 and gave back Rs.40. There was a torn Rs.10 note in that and I had asked him for another note to which he said that “WE DO NOT PRINT NOTES”. But, finally after stating that, he had replaced it. We were still waiting for him to give back Rs.50 and he told that we had given him Rs.50 itself and so there is nothing to return back. After some heated conversation, we finally went to the driver and demanded our Rs.50. He kindly spoke to the conductor as well and asked him return it back. But the conductor continuously denied and spoke nonsense to us. We warned him and also informed that we would report it to the higher authority. He stated, “DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. I DON’T CARE”. He also compared us to some low level people and told we behave like them, even when we were fighting for our rights. Later even the driver told to leave the matter and not take it seriously. We wanted to file a complaint against him and when we asked the driver for the name of the conductor, he denied it and told not to take it further. Later after all the drama, he gave us the 50 rupees as if he was giving it to beggars. This issue is not relating to getting back our Rs.50. But it is the question how women are treated in our society. Even the co-passengers did not come to our rescue and nobody stood for us. Instead they were enjoying the scene. This may sound like a very small issue, but only we knew how we suffered during those 10 minutes. Respect and care for the women should start by standing for us during such tough conditions. If people are negligent and do not support during such times, how can they support during the times of Rape? I think our society is fit only for the candle light marches and nothing else. This is just to make you aware people! Strict actions need to be taken against the men who behave in a negligent way in the public with the women. Only when we fight for small rights, we will be able to fight against the big issues like Rape.
