From a Dutch newspaper: In order to assist the combat in the trade of illegal ivory in African ports Dutch container scanners are being deployed. The first one goes to the Kenyan port of Mombasa from which large quantities of ivory may have been exported . In 2012 that was supposedly 13.5 tonnes . Such equipment may scan the contents of a container within moments. Sharon Dijksma Secretary (Economic Affairs ) has agreed on this with representatives from Kenya. Botswana and Rwanda ratified on Thursday . Dijksma will do so at the international conference in London to be held at the initiative of the British Princes Charles and William . For this conference against wildlife crime, 50 countries and 10 UN organizations are invited. The Netherlands have set aside one million euros (1 Billion Kshs.) for this initiative. The money is intended, for example, to provide modern technology such as satellite phones , night vision and GPS and fast vehicles so that the wildlife rangers are better able to stand up against gangs using the latest equipment . According to the World Wildlife Fund, in 2012 about 22,000 elephants have been killed for their ivory tusks. Furthermore, the Dutch Forensic Institute ( NFI ) provides knowledge to bring trade in pictures: from poacher to dealer and exporter . Control not only in the ports , but also monitoring the African airports are stricter. Also, there is scanning equipment and personnel trained to operate . With sniffer dogs
