From a certified Herbalist who also happens to be LDS (Mormon), heres my 2 cents worth on the subject of vaccines... I believe they were inspired by God. I believe the theory behind them is sound. I believe they should be used with wisdom, prudence, and thanksgiving. What does that mean? Before getting a vaccine for yourself or for a child, I suggest taking the time to study about each vaccine. How does it work? Does it use a live virus or a dead virus? Is the vaccine for a bacteria? (Vaccines generally dont work for bacteria.) Is the vaccine for something that can be prevented through healthful living? Will the vaccine do more harm than good? (For example, the chicken pox vaccine has been linked to the growing number of people developing shingles in their 20s.) Then pray about each vaccine for each individual. Then study and pray about timing. (Should my child wait until theyre a bit older to receive the vaccine?) Also pray about how many to give at once. One vaccine per visit? Several? Also please keep in mind that people who have recently been vaccinated can shed. In other words, you can be contagious. Just got a measles vaccine? Please stay home for a couple of days. If you feel that a particular vaccine isnt right for you or your child, make sure you are very well versed in how to handle the illness at home. Know what the symptoms are. Know what to do and how to do it. Know when it is best to go to the hospital. (For example, Diphtheria is a very serious illness. Its also a bacteria. Even if vaccination had occurred, its important to recognize it right away so you can call ahead to a hospital so they can have the anti-toxin and appropriate anti-biotics ready.) Be aware of side effects and be prepared to deal with them, especially if you, or your family in general, has a history of autism, seizures, or other unusual things. The number and types of vaccinations had increased a great deal since 1985. Some I wouldnt go near with a 10 ft pole (Guardasil). Some I wish were still available (smallpox). Just please be wise and avoid the two extremes on the subject. Being blindly dedicated to either extreme drowns out the quiet whisperings of the Holy Ghost. Please also remember that it is not for any one of us to receive revelation for another person regarding this or for another persons child(ren). Please let us all be kind to each other about this.
