From a chief to a chief I CANNOT understand why Ashwin Raj of MIDA was so worked up about Ratu Vesikulas speech to the PM during the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting, given that the speech was delivered in the native Fijian language. Most importantly, the context of the speech in such instance, delivered by a traditional chief to another of same status and province, cannot be termed as hate speech but a forthright narration of the concern of a traditional chief on the plight of his people. Ratu Vesikula has every right to say what he said given that the other chief was also the PM of Fiji and he is obliged to listen to every issue affecting every race, creed, denominations etc. in Fiji. There was nothing wrong with Fiji TV Ones airing of the speech, which many citizens did not understand except the native Fijians. Its interpretations and speculative translations by MIDAs translator has created a mountain out of a mole- hill. Come on, Ashwin, grow up and learn from the cultures of your fellow native Fijians so that you dont throw your weight around unnecessarily. KOLINIO MEO Suva
