From a fan. Thanks Dustin. "I made a mistake on Saturday. I left the game early. Several UNL students/players were giving it there all on the field for people they don’t even know because that’s what you do when you play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I am still mad at myself because I gave up on them when they have never given up on me. I have now come to realize something that I think we all need to take a step back and look at before we criticize anyone or anything regarding husker football. 1. These kids going out there putting their bodies and mind on the line every week for us are students first. They have to go through the grind of all the academic stress that every college kid goes through and then also play football for an entire state 14 times out of the year. 2. It’s called college football. College is a place where people come to learn and grow to become better. They are nowhere near perfect nor should they be. As long as they are learning and growing we should be happy because that is the intent. 3. Bo Pelini has set the standard high for academics while also winning nine games a year. How is he not successful again with having the highest graduation rate we have seen along with an outstanding gpa, and also winning nine games a year. 4. Bo Pelini is more than a football coach. He is a teacher and a person that happens to coach football. He takes the lives of young men away from their parents for the first time in their lives, and keeps them on track to being successful whether it be academically, athletically, or both. He doesn’t only coach. He parents. 5. Any good team needs a strong support system behind that. We have not been that lately with our obscene comments and our reactions to every game that we win or lose. We need to do better too. 6. Bo has never stopped trying. He only continues to try harder. 7. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and either was Tom Osborne’s career. He took a while too people. 8. In order to succeed, you must first fail. We all know that these kids out on the field are playing a bigger game than just football, and they know that too. That is why they play, and that is why Bo coaches. He understands what job he took, and he also understands what it takes to do that job. What we as husker nation need to understand is that it’s not our place to rush him, but it’s our place to wait. We wait because we are confident in our players. We wait because we are confident in our coaches. We wait because we believe in the magic that husker football brings to everyone every time a touchdown is scored or a tunnel walk is made. We wait because we are husker nation and we believe that we will succeed, and that we will get through the hard times no matter how bad it may seem. I challenge you husker nation to wait, believe, and stay confident with the people we have in place because that’s our role when it comes to husker football. And that role may be the most important of them all."
