From a former Abu Ghraib interrogator in todays NYTimes, the following: Many people were surprised by what [the Senate torture report] contained: accounts of waterboardings far more frequent than what had previously been reported, weeklong sleep deprivation, a horrific and humiliating procedure called “rectal rehydration.” I’m not surprised. I assure you there is more; much remains redacted. I was not surprised in the least and I think anyone who is surprised hasnt been paying attention to how his government has been operating for many years, which is to float on a constant stream of lies. That said, whether surprised or not, one should very much keep in mind that the report as we are seeing it represents merely a portion, and likely a small one, of what there is to know. And the headlines whole thrust -- What America Was -- and Feinsteins Never again rhetoric, constitute more lies. She was a CIA enabler for a long long time and would be again if her morally bankrupt party could ever regain control of the Senate. All that would be required is a shift in the political winds. (Shes a little angry at the CIA these days but theyll eventually make up...) And do we believe force feedings and beatings at Guantanamo are part of what America *was*? Or part of what we are? Do we believe that no one currently is being abused at our hands in Afghanistan? Oh, and an interesting note about what we are: so far beyond all these ugly facts from the past that Facebook spellchecker recognizes neither Abu nor Ghraib. So I guess it never really was a big deal. nytimes/2014/12/10/opinion/the-torture-report-reminds-us-of-what-america-was.html?emc=edit_th_20141210&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=45298423&_r=0
