From a friend Zain Khan - To all my fellow Islamabadis, I try not - TopicsExpress

From a friend Zain Khan - To all my fellow Islamabadis, I try not to force my political opinions down others throats, but all politics aside, I encourage everyone to attend the public hearing on the Metro bus and show their opposition. To answer you questions: Why should I oppose it? The bus project has serious environmental and developmental drawbacks and the CDA and EPA have both shown their opposition to it. Plus, the Asian Development Bank has stated that the project is way over budget. So either the government lacks the skills to make it or theyre just plain corrupt. Are a bunch of trees more important than public transport? Yes. The reason why our city isnt the reservoir of diseases like Dengue that is Lahore, the cloud of industrial smoke that is Karachi is because we take care of our environment. Wont more infrastructure bring more investment? Yes. But this project is financed by loans and since it wont generate any profits, well have to take on more debt to finance it. Spending on security and education is more important for investments than building bus lanes. But at least the government is spending the taxpayers money properly? No. The metro bus costs 300 crore for each mile built! Thats enough money to provide the whole city with clean drinking water and send the 70,000 + uneducated children in the city to school.
