From a momma: Advice Please: I have a full term healthy baby boy that is now almost 4 months. We scheduled an trip to an ENT after his 2 month appointment as his tracheomalicia didnt seem to improve over time (as my first kiddo) and he would choke during some feedings. It took us about a month to get in. We were giving him meds for GERD and it was improving. We were sent for a sleep study, swallow and upper GI study. He was diagnosed with silent aspiration and immediately sent to the ER for admittance into the hospital. The ENT performed a supraglottopasty to help with his airway in hopes that it would stop his aspiration. We failed the swallow test and the doctors are recommending a Nissen Gtube. This has weighed heavy on us since, he has never turned blue, no apiration pneumonia, no problems with weight gain, his GERD was improving, and has hit all developmental milestones. We are now home with a NG tube into his intestines (NJ tube) but they do not feel that it is a good solution. The speech pathologist is pretty confident that the aspiration issue will work itself out but GI wants this surgery so that he will not aspirate from below due to his GERD (that was improving). His reflux is high grade but we did not see him aspirate from below on the upper GI test. Really hard decision to cut open an otherwise healthy baby. Our pediatrician is suggesting that we get an MRI to screen for Chiari before the Nissen Gtube. Any insight from this group? Any other avenues to try or anyone else have the Nissen G Tube with a healthy baby that only has problems with aspiration?
