From a momma: Our 10-mo daughter (single ventricle, 100% g-tube) - TopicsExpress

From a momma: Our 10-mo daughter (single ventricle, 100% g-tube) has made amazing progress in her ability to tolerate feeds over the past few weeks -- to the point that we have been able to stop all continuous feeds and get her calories in with just 5 bolus feeds per day. Her feeding therapist thought this would be a huge breakthrough on oral eating because finally, for the first time in 9 months, she can experience hunger -- and especially, wake up hungry in the morning because shes not tubefed overnight anymore. But its been a week, and so far, she shows even less interest in oral food at breakfast. Has anyone else experienced this? She wakes up cheerful and energetic, so I dont think shes TOO hungry - she just wants to play with her food and resists anything going in the mouth. Later in the day (after 2-3 bolus feeds) her interest picks up and we usually get a few bites or tastes in the afternoon. We can work from there -- Im just so surprised because I thought stimulating hunger would be the key. Does she just need more time to connect the dots?
