From a recent SOLO student: I took a WFR course this February - TopicsExpress

From a recent SOLO student: I took a WFR course this February in Vermont through the VYCC. The course was amazing, learning everything from how to properly bandage a wound to building your own litter. In June I moved to Oregon to tryout for a wild land fire hand crew. During training/try outs they were asking if anyone had EMT and I made it aware I had a current WFR. On the field day where they simulated what working on a fire is like, they had a scenario where a fellow firefighter had a broken femur. The crew boss turned to me and said Youre up kid. With the training SOLO provided earlier that year, I was able to improvise a traction splint and litter so we could evacuate him to a helicopter landing area. When all was said and done the Crew Boss came up to tell me I had earned a spot on his crew not only as a firefighter but as the designated medic. Now back on the east coast for the winter, I am starting EMT classes so I can get a job on an ambulance. I wanted to thank my instructor and SOLO for what you do. It truly makes a difference.
