From a sustainability point of view, bribes are short term and not - TopicsExpress

From a sustainability point of view, bribes are short term and not in the long term best interests of the loved ones. For example, the company known as BG has negotiated a contract with the government of Equatorial Guinea to take all their natural gas for 17 years. The purchase price of the gas was tied to the US price. Since the US price has dropped, Equatorial Guinea gets paid less. BG is selling the gas to other countries at 5 times the purchase price. This translates into billions of $s in profits. So, some may see BG as a great investment. The profit BG is making is on the backs of the people of Equatorial Guinea. Even if the people who made the contract with BG benefited personally, the costs to their loved ones is their community and country as well as the expenditure of resources for below the fair market value.
