From a very successful HS soccer coach while watching her young son play… “Very proud soccer mom-coaching-teaching moment last night at my 9 year old son’s indoor soccer game... If you are involved in youth soccer you know all about obnoxious soccer parents. I sat next to what may have been in my top three most annoying set of sideline parents last night. A set of grandparents and three team dads of the opposing team...they were HORRIBLE. Almost nothing positive out of any of their mouths. Very critical of their team, their coach, their sons and other peoples sons. One dad kept calling his son over the glass where he proceeded to try to sideline coach him-- taking his concentration from the game-which moves too fast for almost any coaching--and that is why our kids learn so much from indoor...the game and their experience, teaches them more than WE could. This kid wasnt having any fun, it was obvious. I sat quietly... yes, I was constantly coming up with my own come-backs should the right opportunity present itself--and had they been observant of body language they would have known I was more than annoyed. Anyway, keeping quiet, paid off. After my son’s 3rd goal, he ran by where we were all sitting and blew me a kiss I blew one back... He had just completely destroyed the dads son who was being coached through the glass next me... I looked at all six of them-who just then realized whose kid was ours and I said hmmmmmm, and all THAT and without ME telling him what to do.” I got up, tipped my hat and walked towards the other side of the arena. Let your kids play, parents! Let them play and enjoy the game! You will be rewarded by blown kisses as they excel on their own.”
