From amongst the great foundations, that every believer should be - TopicsExpress

From amongst the great foundations, that every believer should be familiar with is this: Actions built on the Sunnah, even if they were few, are better than actions that are against the Sunnah, even if they were many. We can see the evidence for this principle, in the hadith that is agreed upon by the two Sheikhs, Bukhari and Muslim رحمهما الله: “Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet, asking how the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) worshipped, and when they were thus informed, they considered their worship insufficient and said: ‘Where are we from the Prophet as his past and future sins have been forgiven.’ Then one of them said: ‘I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever.’ The other said, ‘I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast.’ The third said, ‘I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever.’ Allaah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) came to them and said: ‘Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allaah, I am more submissive to Allaah and have more taqwa of Allaah that you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who turns away from my Sunnah (tradition in religion) is not from me.” These men wanted to do good deeds, and wanted to do more, the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) however, let them know that this is against his way. One should, therefore, avoid such extremes, as all good comes in following the Sunnah of the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Other than what is mentioned in the Hadith, Here are some examples of how people violate the Sunnah, because they think they are just doing more righteous deeds: 1- To make the Sunnah prayer of Fajr very long, when the Sunnah is to pray them short. 2- Throwing more than seven stones at the Jamarat during Hajj. 3- Looking for big stones to throw. 4- Praying more than eleven rak’aat during Tarawih. 5- Washing the limbs more than thrice in the Wudhu’. 6- Making the Friday sermon very long. May Allaah keep us firm on the Sunnah of His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and may He send His Salaah and Salaam upon him, his family and his companions.
