From an America Votes Representative in the Raleigh, NC area this morning, in reference to the new voter suppression bill our #NCGA passed two weeks ago. "To My Teachers and My Voting Rights Advocates: The first part of the new voting restrictions coming down the pipe from the legislature will be the elimination of the program that allows 16 and 17 year olds to pre-register. This goes into effect September 1st. So that means that there are 5 classroom days between when schools start back and when the registration window ends. So this is essentially a five day organizing drive opportunity. If you are a high school teacher, please consider taking a few minutes in class that first week to get your students registered. And if you are a community civic advocate, please reach out to your local high school to see if we can get something going before this program is shut down."
