From an email originally sent to members of S71 clubs by Paul McDonald who allowed me (DG) to resend to each set of club officers. Paul was brilliant! The following advertisement was listed in a London newspaper in the early 1900s: Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and recognition in case of success. - Ernest Shackleton. 4 Burlington st. The story goes that over 5,000 men responded to the ad and Shackleton selected 28 of them for an expedition to Antarctica. We are facing a unique opportunity in District 22. It will be hard and require work but I promise you wont freeze to death. We have the possibility as a district to achieve Presidents Distinguished District. Its a stretch, but it is achievable. As of midnight last night, the district needs the following to achieve this goal: Form three more clubs 21 more distinguished clubs 250 more members Three more clubs = 20x3=60 of those 250 members. We have exactly 21 clubs in the district that have alreadyachieved 5 or more goals but have yet to meet the membership requirement for DCP. Those 21 clubs need a total of 79 new members to achieve Distinguished Club. So all it boils down to is membership. --60 from forming 3 new clubs --79 from a major DCP membership drive among 21 clubs That totals 139 and leaves 111 more to go. Divide those 111 among the remaining 80 clubs and thats only 1.38 average per club. The district leadership is working to form clubs and have a good number in the kettle including the Hispanic Toastmasters Club and a potential second club at Black & Veatch. Presidents Distinguished District is an achievable goal. OUR PART: Here is our part for the achievement of this goal: Feel free to recruit more members to pick up the pace, and also to refer members to other clubs who need them to achieve their goals in the rest of the clubs in the area! Naturally, recruit with integrity and follow the mission of the Toastmasters club--do whats best for the new member! This is a huge opportunity folks--It will involve lots of work, has little chance of success, and will grow you individually and us as a district like never before if successful! Lets make a difference for District 22!
