From article: Perhaps the most important element of the study, says Bret, is the light that it sheds on the human origins of the Polynesian culture. Despite a sparse archaeological record for dog species in southeast Asia and Polynesia, there is a direct link between the spread of the Neolithic culture, Austronesian languages, and the arrival of dogs in the region. But the researchers claim the dingo arrived in Australia before the Neolithic period, possibly during early trade between pre-Neolithic groups. I have been saying all along that the Tongan dog is actually a Dingo - or mostly Dingo. Of course they do have some domesticated dog in their DNA - but have very strong ancestral (Dingo) DNA - they are indigenous. The story of the Dingo (the Indigenous dogs of this world) - and the story of all the Indigenous peoples of this world are intertwined since the dawn of modern humans. Dog truly is mans best friend - or most loyal anyway - dogs have been watching our backs for a very long time - our inter-species friendship goes way back.
