From friend Fry, Please pass this on!!!!! Thursday, January 22, 2015 There is a fight of fundamental importance going on in the Kansas House which will play out on Monday Jan, 26, 2015 at 11:00 am. The issue is whether the citizen have an absolute right to have votes made in the House, both on the House floor and in committees, recorded so citizen will know how the various legislators voted. Currently votes are not required to be recorded and can only be forced, for instance on the House floor, if 15 legislators request such. Not recording of votes should be the exception (if ever) not the rule. Rep. Rubin will be introducing amendments to the House rules which will required 1. recorded votes on the House floor and in committees, 2. to stop bundling bills (combining several bills to together to be voted on at the same time) and 3. have early morning and late evening votes. Leadership opposes the Rubin amendments including House Speaker Ray Merrick and Peggy Mast. I see their position as un-American and a volition of their fiduciary duty to keep their constitutions informed of what they do. They want to hid the vote so they and those who legislators who take their orders will not be held accountable to their bosses, We the People. Call and e-mail their offices and the office of other leadership and your legislators (soon and often) and demand they support the Rubin amendment to House rules. (Numbers are below.) I have advocated for this rule since the comprehensive Taxpayer Protection from Illegal Aliens Act of 2008, filed by Sen. Peggy Palmer, was gutted in the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee, without a recorded vote. One of the committee members, who sponsored the bill, told me he was getting calls 300 to 1 to pass the bill as is. Another committee member / sponsor had a like story. Yet a group of GOP Senators (RINOs) joined in with a few democrats to gut the bill and turn it into a bill to protect illegal aliens such as by allowing them to get welfare, drivers licenses and other benefits. The vote was not recorded.* This unethical practice hampers the citizens ability to monitor and advise (hold accountable) our public servants. Anyone who does not support recorded votes should not be a public servant Please call early and often and tell them to support the Rubin amendments. Richard D. The effort was lead by the infamous Sen. John Vratil(R), with the support of the committee chair Pete Brungardt (R) and votes from lieutenants Julia Lynn (R) (now chair of Commerce) and Karin Brownlee (R) (was appointed to a cushy adm. job by Brownback and now lobbies for Sustainable Development in the form of wind energy) and Roger Reitz (R).
