From here on earth, From my small place I ask of You Way out in space: Please tell all people In every land What You and I Both understand . . . Please tell all people That Peace is Good. Thats all That need be understood In every world In Your great sky. We understand. Both you and I. - Dr. Seuss In early May, I attended three Pete Seeger birthday celebrations in the Hudson River valley. The song Rainbow Race was featured at all three. At one of the Pete tributes, Middle School children from the Woodstock Country Day beautifully sang the song. (The proceeds from this event went to benefit this school and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.) Im guessing you know the lyrics, but just in case you dont, here they are. One blue sky above us, one ocean lapping all our shore One earth so green and round, who could ask for more? And because I love you Ill give it one more try To show my rainbow race, its too soon to die Some folks want to be like an ostrich Bury their heads in the sand Some hope that plastic dreams Can unclench all those greedy hands Some hope to take the easy way Poisons, bombs, they think we need em Dont you know you cant kill all the unbelievers? Theres no shortcut to freedom One blue sky above us, one ocean lapping all our shore One earth so green and round, who could ask for more? And because I love you Ill give it one more try To show my rainbow race, its too soon to die Go tell, go tell all the little children Tell all the mothers and fathers too Nows our last chance to learn to share Whats been given to me and you One blue sky above us, one ocean lapping all our shore One earth so green and round, who could ask for more? And because I love you Ill give it one more try To show my rainbow race, its too soon to die One blue sky above us, one ocean lapping all our shore One earth so green and round, who could ask for more? As I read the above words, I am reminded of the times I shared with Pete which were truly inspiring. I certainly remember listening to his words and joining in on his songs, but I also recall picking up trash with my friend. Perhaps, this was the key to his success. Pete put his heart, mind, and soul into all of his actions. If only I could do the same. https://youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mpj1IvgHD9Q
