From its inception, the college was to be a place of true higher learning for women, not a finishing school. Intended to be a counterpart to the University of Missouri educating men just a mile away, many courses taught at Christian Female College were nearly identical to those taught at the university and were often taught by the same faculty. And so, just 14 years after the women’s college movement began in the United States, Columbia College proved itself a pioneer from the beginning – a legacy that continues today. #CharterDay
