From kindergarten, while growing up in this culture, we learned - TopicsExpress

From kindergarten, while growing up in this culture, we learned how to keep time by using a clock and a wall calendar. The minute hand, the short hand, the second hand... We even learned a little nursery rhyme to help us remember the months and the number of days in a month, Thirty days has September, April, June and November, when short Februarys done, all the rest have 31. The days of the week and their order were learned by the calendar. An ancient Biblical culture, indeed ancient culture in general, they learned none of this. They learned time by ASTRONOMY. From the age of a kindergartner, they learned to watch the rotations, revolutions and patterns of the luminaries (Sun, Moon and Stars) in the sky. That is exactly what YHWH intended for us to do with the celestial system. USE it for the purpose of time-keeping and navigation. (Gen 1:14-19). The luminaries can be seen by every person on earth. Thus, the knowledge of how to keep time and to navigate is not a secret privy to only a few, but ALl have access to this information. Concerning teh luminaries, Psalm 19 states: 3. There is NO SPEECH NOR LANGUAGE WHERE THEIR VOICE IS NOT HEARD. 4. Their line is gone out through ALL THE EARTH, and their words TO THE END OF THE WORLD.... Today, we do not depend on or use these created celestial bodies to understand time as YHWH intended. Instead, we look to man-made systems and religious theology. Sadly, this is true even of believers. Too often I have seen and heard debates and arguments over interpretations of Scripture, and the books of Enoch and Jubilees. I watch in frustration as we argue about the detailed definitions of Hebrew words and grammar. I shake my head in disappointment as I observe us quote religious commentators and historians. But what I almost NEVER see us doing, is actually talking about the actual and observable astronomical REALITY of how nature truly works! What is disheartening about that is, through all of the theological and religious rhetoric, quotes and arguing... the answer is found in just learning how the luminaries IN FACT, work! It really doesnt matter what someones interpretation is. IF the book of Enoch or Jubilees says something contrary to how nature really works, then do we ignore nature and follow the book? I would like to try an experiment of sorts. On THIS thread, I want to start a discussion about the luminaries from a STRICTLY astronomical and scientific FACT point of view. No Scripture quoting... No book of Enoch or Jubilees... No quotes from theologians or historians.... The ONLY thing allowed in THIS thread are astronomical FACTS and science regarding how the celestial system works. Go...
