From my Flickr Profile :- It is interesting to see how people look at photography, even photographers themselves . . . here are two . . . I have often thought that if photography were difficult in the true sense of the term—meaning that the creation of a simple photograph would entail as much time and effort as the production of a good watercolor or etching—there would be a vast improvement in total output. The sheer ease with which we can produce a superficial image often leads to creative disaster. ~ Ansel Adams and It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter, because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary. ~ David Bailey. At first glance the two appear contradictory but a careful reading shows that not to be the case, Adams is talking of how easy it is to take a (read any or an ordinary) photograph while Bailey talks of how tough it is to take a good one - and there-in lies the difference. There is a HUGE difference between taking photographs (even photographs of beautiful subjects) and taking beautiful photographs - even photographs of ordinary and mundane subjects. It is to master the latter art that we all strive and this cant be achieved by just acquiring great/expensive gear. There is another lovely quote someone left as a comment on one of my images which I really like . . . To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them. - Elliott Erwitt I am lucky to be able to afford good gear (below) but that hasnt made my struggle to be the best photographer I can be any easier . . . but its fun and I am learning everyday . . . for the time being that will do . . .
