From my collection- Confederate Jenifer officer’s saddle, 1860. The owner was 1st Lieutenant J. C. Lloyd, Co. E. 118TH, from Salam, Ohio who later lived in Anahuae, Texas and died in Salina, Kansas in 1927. He served with Sherman during the siege of Atlanta. After the capture of Atlanta he was transferred to Nashville under Schofield and took part in the capture of Fort Anderson and the cities of Wellington, Kingston and Goldsboro. He was mustered out on July 10, 1865. It was during his time in Nashville that he acquired a Confederate sword and saddle, presumed taken from a captured officer. During the Civil War, many Confederate officers provided their own civilian saddles, which is what this is. The seat is covered in ornate stitching.
