From my great niece Pam Hobbs Walters about my Mom and Dad as well - TopicsExpress

From my great niece Pam Hobbs Walters about my Mom and Dad as well as her additional family. Thank you, Pam for the reminder of Gods provision. My cousin, Leann Clark, found an old tape of my great-grandma, Minnie, telling stories. I remember a story that may have been on that tape about the power of prayer and the moving of God in peoples heart. Back in the day, after my great-grandpa, Ben, got saved, he was taking what money they had and starting up churches here and there. Well, he had left with the money, and left Minnie home with a couple of hungry mouths to feed, with no money, and she had just used the last of the grease and flour to make gravy the night before. Minnie prayed, telling God that He knew what she needed, she didnt know what else to do, but trusted that He did. Well, a little later, she heard something on the porch. She thought it was just the old dog, but the more she thought about it, she figured shed go take a look. There by the door was a box with a few cabbages, a can of flour, a can of milk, a slab of bacon, and maybe something else, but those are the things I remember, the old memory being what it is. Anyway, she gets the box in the kitchen, goes through it, and says something to the effect of, Lord, thank you for all this food, but there aint a bit of grease to put it all together with! Again, she hears something on the porch. She opens the door, and there is a can of grease on the porch and an old car speeding down the drive! The Lord works through you and me, friends. Whenever you hear that small voice telling you that someone needs your help, listen. My friend, Susie Clemmons, used to tell me back when we were raising our kids together, If Ive got it, honey, you can have it! And, Daddy always grew a garden big enough that we took food to every widow woman we knew, and even every old drunk friend that probably hadnt had a real meal in days. I didnt think much of it at the time, but when folks came out of the woodwork for Daddys funeral to pay respects and told us what he did for them, it was amazing to hear. You dont have to be a Christian to be a tool of God, either. You just do whats right, what that voice inside tells you. Its a feeling, or a thought, that says you know, you should go check on her, or I bet theyd like some turnip greens and I have plenty. We all have them, act on them. Merry Christmas, with a lesson of loving one another from my Benjamin-Minnie Williams-Family.
