From my home, Cogito Creative; cant get enough: REMAIN IN AWE A recent study out of Stanford University has shown that continued exposure to the feeling of awe can expand people’s perception of time, alter decision making, and enhance overall well-being. I heard about this study thanks to Jason Silva and his talk “We Are the Gods Now” (link below). And while it may seem a little vague, basically all it means is that the more often a person has that feeling of awe (looking at the Grand Canyon, or into a loved one’s eyes), the happier they will be. That’s pretty awesome in and of itself, right? Apparently this feeling also has the ability expand our perception of time. It literally forces us to expand our minds just to be able to fully comprehend the situation. And if exposed to enough awe, we can actually upgrade our brains, evolve our neural schematics and become a better, more powerful individual. So the next time you’re watching the sunset, or listening to your favorite concerto, take stock of yourself in that moment. What you feel, how you feel. But then, don’t just stand in amazement, or snap a photo and be done. Take it a step further. Use the inspiration that comes from that feeling of awe to use your brain more efficiently. Think about things, both big and small. Mull over that career decision, relationship problem, etc. But also contemplate the complexities of the universe. Think about your part in figuring out all of mankind’s greatest questions. And, of course, be in awe of the fact that you have the ability to comprehend such awe. What do you find awe-inspiring? Let us know. Full respect and recognition that this idea comes from Jason Silva; I just think it’s a damn good one.
