From my journal: So I’m trying to do games with the 2nd graders. I’m trying to get them reeled in, at least somewhat organized, so I can implement “the plan.” They are running around, not amok, not yet. As I stand there trying to figure out what to do before all is lost, I feel a small hand slip into mine. I look down into two bright blue eyes framed by a curtain of blonde hair looking up at me. A small body snuggles close, and suddenly the world comes right. I look back up. I do not see chaos; I do not see “the plan” in peril; I see children running and playing and laughing. I smile and blow my whistle.
