From my mom Wayne had a CT scan which shows that the old pneumonia spots (from last months stay) have shrunk considerably. BUT, there is a new spot that is fairly large (about the size of a tennis ball). The doctors have been giving him a broad spectrum of antibiotics, hoping to get rid of this infection. Now they have decided that in the morning, they will perform a biopsy of his lung to retrieve a portion of the bacteria so that they can specifically identify it. Then they can narrow the antibiotics to the one that the bacteria is sensitive to. But before they can start this biopsy, they have to raise his platelet level, considerably higher than it has been. Today, before the platelet transfusion, his level was 8. A normal person is between 140-440. They need to raise Waynes to close to 50 to minimize the danger of this procedure. So starting at 12:30 am, they will be drawing blood, administering platelets, drawing blood, administering platelets and drawing blood again. Then during the procedure, they will also be giving him more platelets. Please pray that his platelets rise to the level needed. Please pray for guidance in this procedure. Pray that the bacteria is isolated quickly and the correct antibiotic is determined. Pray that Wayne will, in general, feel better quickly. Pray for him...it is easy to become depressed when a person continually feels poorly. I feel like we have been fighting infections more than the Luekimia itself. Thanks for the prayers.
