From my personal experience, although I have never been an addict, I have been in relationships with them. Addicts seek their pleasure or addiction because they need it to make them feel whole and complete as a person. No matter how much you enable them or try to show them they are wonderful, they will not be able to kick the habit by themselves unless they truly want to change. This means getting and seeking out professional help on their own. I sought help for one of my exes and since he did not want it, he failed to go. Addiction can also lead to mental disorders which makes them much harder to deal with.
