From my recent visit to the fantastic Gemeente Museum in The Hague: they have the largest collection of Piet Mondriaan paintings in the world, and here are some early works that show his journey towards the pure abstraction he is famous for: 1) Fen near Saasveld, 1907 2) Woods near Oele, 1908 3) Mill in sunlight, 1908 4) and 5) Two of the earlier apple tree paintings that became more and more abstract
