From now on Im going to post two reviews a week just because I dont think one a week is enough in comparison to how many Im writing. So this is the first ever Wednesday Review. Wednesday Review: Vices and Virtues by Art of Dying Art of Dying Vices and Virtues 2011 Genre: Alternative Rock Before I started listening to this album I had never heard of ‘Art of Dying’ and to be honest, with a name like that I wasn’t expecting much, but I’m glad to report that I was wrong to judge this book by its cover. The opening track titled ‘Die Trying’ kicks off with a good but generic sounding metal intro. The strong start is let down slightly by a slow tempo and shallow sounding opening verse but, the song regains all its lost energy with a brilliant, exciting, and catchy chorus. This is a good song... but it isnt extraordinary. ‘Get Thru This’ is just outstanding, plain and simple. It has powerful lyrics, awesome bass player, fantastic vocals and sets you up perfectly for one of the best songs on the album, ‘Sorry’. This song is a bit slower and has a bit of a ‘Dry County’-Bon Jovi feel to start with but at the same time the chorus could pass as a Theory Of A Deadman song. This slow rock song could be branded as ‘generic’ or ‘mainstream’ but as far as Im concerned it’s flawless. The next track is called ‘Whole World’s Crazy’ and it best aspect is its deep and powerful lyrics about big and common social problems, sounds depressing but this song is very clever, and very good. ‘I Will Be There’ is a calm acoustic rock song about eternal love... aww, how cute, and annoyingly likeable. As much as I want to hate this song I just can’t, it’s just performed so well it’s impossible not to like it. Damn, I hate it when I like corny songs. When ‘Raining’ came on I thought I’d accidentally put ‘Whole World’s Crazy’ on again, these two songs sound very similar which could be read as a good or bad thing. I’m always nervous when rock bands try ‘rocky’ power ballads because they’re either priceless or worthless but, Art Of Dying manage to pull off a truly priceless rock ballad with ‘Best I Can’. This album and band are just simply amazing, no other way to put it; some of the lyrics from ‘Whole World’s Crazy’ are ‘is the whole crazy now?’ and I think it must be to have not noticed the incredible... Art Of Dying. Review Rating: 8 https://youtube/watch?v=F4aaxJCqumQ
