From our friends at Pine Center for the Arts!!! Next weekend! Art Center Gallery Exhibit Opens Friday, April 11 The Art Center welcomes Barb Dryer and Sharon Howell this month as the featured artists in the Gallery. Dreyer is a resident of Grasston, MN where she has her own studio space and does her pottery work full-time. Howell resides in Cambridge, MN. She has a true love for the arts and enjoys expressing that through painting images that speak to her. Dreyer and Howell will have their work on display this month in the first combined showing. “We are excited to have a combined show featuring both 2-D and 3-D work in the same gallery exhibit. Both artists have a distinctly different style, but the combination of mediums provides for an interesting viewing,” says PJay Siltanen, gallery committee member. Dreyer’s work has been featured in previous years at the Art Center, but she never fails to provide new and interesting ideas for each exhibit. According to Dreyer, “The ecological diversity of East Central Minnesota has been my unending inspiration for the past 15 years. I carefully select native plants from the woods and fields surrounding my home and imprint them into the clay to leave a permanent record of natures beauty and perfection. Each piece becomes a one of a kind work of art - uniquely created, uniquely Minnesota.” This will be the first exhibit for Howell in the Art Center Gallery. Howell shares an interesting perspective through her Lakescape Series, “I am a map and lake person. With the Cambridge area brochure in hand, I remember looking down at Lake Florence from the bridge south of Cambridge and wishing I could be higher---to get a better perspective, a more interesting view. Then the “aha” moment that led to the development of the Lakescapes series. The image is based on DNR lake maps, showing water depths. Those shapes formed by the depth lines just called out for paint.” The Art Center will host an Opening Night Gala on Friday, April 11th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in the Gallery space at 265 5th Street SE. The public is invited for this free event to drop by for light appetizers and an opportunity to meet the artist.
