From our friends at Whitehouse United Methodist Church.....in honor of the attacks on September 11th: Quilts for Kids (QFK) celebrates 13th years and thanks Whitehouse UMC for the privilege to meet weekly at the church. Quilts for Kids started as a response to the 9-11 attacks. Susan Stallings felt the need to use her God given talent to help give something to the children who lost loved ones in the terrorist attack. She first pieced the Patriotic Star Quilt, which is now the Signature Quilt for QFK. This small group of ladies crafted with love more than 450 quilts which were sent to each child in New York who had lost a loved one. Since then, the growing organization of more than 25 (from Whitehouse, Tyler, Flint, Chandler and Troup) continue to make quilts to help ease the pains of abuse, trauma and cancer for those who have loss in their lives or medical challenges and to celebrate new life in Gods beautiful world. Originally, the small group met at Green Acres Family Life Center, but when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans Green Acres needed the space for hurricane evacuees. Since 2005, QFK is privileged to meet weekly at WUMC. Our volunteers donate their time, creativity, fabric, supplies, hugs, smiles and prayers. Other ways the group replenishes its needs is through donations and memorials. The ladies enjoy a VERY special friendship and fellowship while sharing Gods love through their talents and quilts. We (QFK) give our quilts to bring HOPE, WARMTH AND CARING HUGS to the community. Thank you, Whitehouse UMC for your caring volunteers!
