From our grantees at Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida, Inc.: Brittany is a senior blind Schnauzer. She may have a bit of sight, we are not sure yet, a foster family will let us know more. What sickens us about this dog is that she is only blind because some fool didn’t get her the vet care she needed. She has dry eye that went untreated for so long that it caused corneal “scarring”. Dry eye is so uncomfortable. We couldn’t leave this dog at animal control to be euthanized. She deserves to be spoiled. We immediately cleaned Brittany’s eyes and started her on soothing, moisturizing drops. We did that on arrival and it took 10 minutes to clean and medicate her eyes, but she was so good. We then re cleaned her eyes because the moisture we applied released more discharge that needed to come out. You could see she felt better when we were done. Since she has arrived our vet techs have been doing this twice a day and there is remarkable improvement in two days. Brittany’s heart and legs are in good shape. We were surprised. Animal control said she was an active dog, not a dog that was ready to die so we were happy our vet agreed. Her bloodwork was great but she seemed to be uncomfortable around her abdomen. We radiographed her bladder and sure enough—5 large stones. Another condition that should have been treated a long time ago. Thank you for helping this one. She deserves so much better than what her prior owner did to her!
