From our grantees at The U.S. War Dogs Association Chapter - TopicsExpress

From our grantees at The U.S. War Dogs Association Chapter 3: They are starting to reduce the numbers of not only personnel, but also Dog teams in Afghanistan. Recently 10 dogs were retired. We were able to locate 4 of the dogs original handlers. These handlers were able to adopt their dogs and take them home. Thanks to the Doris Day Foundation we were able to send the reunited teams a Welcome Home and Happy Retirement Package. The first photo is Daniel Stone and Torres during downtown before heading to work. Torres ended up doing 2 deployments in Afghanistan and now they are both happy together in Michigan. The second photo is of Brian Karsner and Casey. Casey ended up doing 3 deployments and discovered 10 IEDs. With each find they not only saved the handler but also the personnel with them. Casey is now laying on Brians couch in Kentucky. Now all of this was not even a possibility and would have been just a dream for all of us dog handlers of years ago. This is truly a very neat thing. When the Vietnam War was coming to an end, our Dogs were euthanized instead of bringing them home. Our Government ended up killing over 2500 of our dogs. This why we are so extremely happy to hear about the dogs being adopted and able to live out the rest of their lives in a loving home, and especially if it is one of the handlers homes.
