From our winner in Manchester, Ashely Robertson. Thanks Ashley! firstly thank you for the tickets! It was amazing being in the front row in such an impressive venue seeing such an impressive performer and his brilliant band. A lot of people were surprised to see a twenty year old at a Jackson Browne concert and to hear that hes my favourite artist, but thats the amazing attribute of his music. It transcends across generations and resonates with everyone as they apply their own feelings and experiences to his musical motif. No one writes about the incomprehensible feeling of loss and poignant mystery of love quite like Jackson Browne. This is also true for the impressive collection of new songs Jackson played from the brilliant new album. Unlike many artists of the same ilk, Jackson is not re-packaging classic material but creating thought provoking anthems that ask the listener to question what they believe and what topics should really be at the top of their big issues list. Standing In The Breach is a call to action, for the talking to stop and to be the change in the world, we want to see. Jackson and the band were on top form especially guitarist Val McCallum who blew the audience away! It was amazing to see how effortlessly intricate all his solos were; as Jackson watched on like a proud father. It was clear to see Jackson still enjoys performing live, and still has an impressive voice to do so at the age of 66! Although he lived to regret an observation he made about the more reserved UK audiences compared to his usual punters. This received a deluge of requests which, after a band team talk huddle, Jackson duly accepted with great humility. Even a fitting tribute to the late great Warren Zevon. It was such an incredible night and was well worth the 350 mile round trip, especially when it gave me a chance to see a true legend perform and give my uncle who lives in Manchester and who I gave the other ticket to, a chance to discover Jackson, who he said he will be listening to a lot more now!
