From planting to weeding and feeding, there is no shortage of things to do in the garden. But it can also be relaxing and rewarding. And if you want to sort out having a great lawn, beautiful flower garden, masses of veges, or an irrigation system for summer, now is the time to get gardening! Plant your summer herbs and veggies like Tomatoes, Capsicums, Eggplant, and Basil now. It’s also a great time to plant interesting salad plants for this summer: Sorrel is great for adding a lemony zest; Nasturtium leaves and flowers add a peppery bite; Calendula petals add some colour and look great. For more salad ideas, ask in-store. From Asters, Cornflowers to Petunias and Zinnias, there are heaps of annual flowers that you can sow or plant now to ensure you have flowers through summer. There are also heaps of brilliant perennial flowers that you can plant now, and will last for years to come. The new varieties of Alstromerias and Gerberas that just arrived are stunning. It’s a good time to think about Citrus. They can be planted all year, but if you plant now make sure that you water deeply at least once a week. Fertilise existing plants using either a fruit and citrus fertiliser or sheep pellets and organic liquid fertilisers like Aquaticus Supernatural. See any yellowing leaves; apply Epsom salts. Sadly, new growth in the garden comes about just when the number of pests increases. Healthy plants in healthy soil are less likely to get hit; adding compost and Natures Organic Fertiliser can really help. If you do get pests, Organic sprays, like Bugtrol, are great in most cases. Spray in the evening to avoid killing beneficial insects.
